Massive recalls have impacted the auto industry, with defective airbags found in vehicles by 19 popular brands, on the front passenger’s side, driver’s side, or both. Produced by Takata, a major supplier, the faulty airbags have exploded when deployed due to long-term exposure to high temperatures and humidity – with injuries and deaths resulting. In fact, more than 67 million airbags have been recalled, mostly installed in model years between 2002 and 2015. Takata recalls have been systematically performed in waves, with the most at-risk vehicles taking priority.
